Mothercare UK allows customers to visit their website and place orders, or visit their physical stores across the UK. The corporation is dedicated to providing quality goods and services, but with the large clientele base, complaints are inevitable. The types of merchandise provided by the company are meant for a certain period of time only and may lose their purpose of purchase if there is a delay in delivery or repair. Mothercare knows the essence of providing its customers with high-quality merchandise, but do not overlook the possibility of having hiccups in goods and services delivery. The company has, therefore, provided contact numbers that clients can use to reach them in cases of queries or complaints.

Mothercare Customer Services

Mothercare UK customer care team is available from 8 am to 8 pm Monday to Friday, 9 am - 6 pm Saturday and 9 am to 5 pm on Sundays. During this time, clients can make physical visits to the various Mothercare stores or call them on their helpline number. Alternatively, they can tweet the company, @mothercarehelp in the case of a delivery query or when unable to track their order online. The company’s twitter team is on standby to respond to queries within 2 hours, on working days only (Monday to Friday), between 9am-5pm. Despite the dedication of the company to handle its customers’ complaints amicably, clients have expressed their dissatisfaction in the manner at which the customer care representatives handle them.

Various customers who contact Mothercare have ranted on different customer reviews’ websites, regarding the nature of services they have received from the businesses. A client, identified as Lynne Griggs, labels the company as a false advertiser. This was after receiving his delivery of prem baby clothes after 4 days, yet the order was supposed to be delivered the next day. The client felt that the company has no capability to do next day delivery services, yet they go ahead and advertise the same service on their website.

Another client, Laura Smith, expresses her disappointed after purchasing a Billie Fraiers pram from Mothercare in mid-2016. According to her, the pram broke down just before Christmas, with her son in it. The client’s disappointments were far from over after calling Mothercare helpline for a way forward. She was required to take the pram to the company’s store, which had her incur more costs of hiring a taxi. By the time of posting her complaint on 3rd March 2017, Smith was yet to get any communication from the company. The corporation had given the customer two options; either to repair the item or to replace it with a new one. With constant visits and calls to the company, Smith was informed that her pram had got lost. With such a negative review of the company, it’s expected to lose many potential clients who come across such posts.

On 23rd February 2017, a client identified as Robbie rants about his disappointing escapade after visiting the Stratford store, on the online customer reviews platform. He describes the Mothercare customer care representatives as unfriendly and reluctant in offering assistance. According to him, the staff members feel inconvenienced by clients who make visits to the stores and seem to have little knowledge of the merchandise in stock. Robbie rants about spending more than 20 minutes waiting for his order, which the staff members were sceptical of its existence.

Lou Isa, another Mothercare client, describes the tasks of the company on the online platform as “fraudulent practices and appalling management.” After purchasing a pack of baby grows that had a 25% off tag on them, she did not receive any discount while making payment. The store manager did not offer any assistance on being contacted by Isa, and the complaints department referred her back to him after writing to them. Isa describes her disappointing experience as the last time she was willing to shop at Mothercare.

After placing an order for a travel system, Matt and his wife are yet to receive their merchandise, three weeks later. Matt expresses his grief after trying to track his order with Mothercare and the freight company mandated to deliver the system. According to the shipment company, the paperwork was delivered to them, but the item was missing. This compelled him to call Mothercare, and indeed, they confirmed that the paperwork was sent but the item had apparently gone missing. Matt had not received any communication prior to contacting the company, which was an inconvenience on his side. Although Mothercare agreed to refund the full amount, and a £20 e-voucher for the inconvenience, the company had lost a potential returning customer.

Contacting Mothercare via their phone number seems to be unhelpful to the ranting clients, and neither does physical visit to the stores. It’s quite evident that Mothercare UK has a long way to go in addressing the issues facing their customer care departments. The head of the customer care departments needs to make an overhaul of the entire sector soon enough before the company loses more clients. Alternatively, all clients ought to be compensated for inconveniences caused by unethical customer representatives.
